A construction site security company operating a fleet of 35 solar-powered portable CCTV towers needed a reliable cellular backhaul solution that would work within the power budget of a solar and battery system, while providing remote management capability to reduce site visits.

The Challenge
The existing router solution drew 12W continuously – a significant proportion of the solar system’s daily generation. Milesight UR32L routers (the low-power variant) were specified, drawing 4.5W in normal operation compared to the previous 12W. The reduction in router power consumption increased nighttime runtime by approximately 3 hours under typical winter conditions. The Outcome
Camera outages due to battery depletion dropped by 70% in the first winter season.
